Extra Care Housing provides a preventative approach to supporting people to retain independence, choice and control and provides a viable alternative to residential care home placements, key elements of Extra Care schemes include:— security of tenure deriving either from an assured tenancy or lease with the right to control access to their own property;— independent living by providing individually tenanted and self-contained accommodation and services that are tailored to be flexible and responsive to changing need;— the option to provide opportunities for social interaction and community engagement;— an ethos that promotes self-determination, enabling and independence;— a model of supported housing rather than residential care.Care is to be provided within a number of Lots of pre-existing Extra Care schemes. They are:Lot 1:— Springbank Court, Blackburn;— St Margaret's Court, Blackburn;Lot 2:— Kingsway, Blackburn;Lot 3:— Cotton Spinners Court, Darwen;— Hindle Court, Darwen;— Lees Court, Darwen;— Pembroke Court, Darwen.Provision of extra care at the 7 schemes (split into the above 3 Lots) will require day time care support to individual tenants based on commissioned need, responses to care requests when a pull cord or handset is triggered and night time care cover across the schemes.
