Purchase of a 2 year project, designed to eradicate FGM in Coventry. The project will focus on implementing the recommendations in the Public Health FGM report and effectively tackle FGM in Coventry. The 2 year project will have a budget of 150 000 GBP which will cover recruitment and salary costs, procurement of a specialist training programme, community asset building and communications.The following priorities will form the basis of the project:— To plan and implement a community development work programme to address female genital mutilation, with professionals, agencies and practising communities.— To develop and deliver a range of high quality groups, using community language(s) as appropriate.— To develop, in partnership awareness campaigns on FGM tailored to the general public, practising communities and professionals.— To commission an external provider to implement a training programme tailored to professionals and communities.— To work with communities on asset building to increase the sustainability of the project, ensure value for money and improve the effectiveness/cost effectiveness of the project.— The project will be required to develop city wide awareness raising campaigns on FGM for the general public, professionals and practising communities.— Consultation with local community members and professionals identified a lack of knowledge on FGM, what it is, the consequences of the practise and how to engage effectively with communities affected by it. As a result funding from this project will be available to develop and commission bespoke training aimed at professionals and community members to up skill our workforce to proactively tackle FGM with service users and empower communities to oppose the practise.
