Helsinki City Transport is preparing procurement of approximately 25 metro trains and additional 20 metro trains in options.
The metro trains will be 4 car units replacing the legacy fleet and enabling shorter headways. The aim is to acquire GoA2
prepared metro trains delivered from 2030. Key parameters and potential mandatory requirements (preliminary values), some
values/parameters will be topics for RFI’s: - Approximate length: 88-90 m - Maximum width: 3.2 m - Maximum height: 3.7 m
- Nominal floor height: ~1100 mm - Track gauge: 1522 mm - Number of passenger doors per side of one car: 3 - Nominal voltage:
750 V DC - Maximum allowed axle load: 13.0 tonnes at Exceptional Payload (all seated plus 6,66 PAX/m2 standing area) - Maximum
speed: 90 km/h - Initial acceleration: 1.2 m/s² Other important features/aspects and possible RFI topics: Changing from GoA2
to GoA4 is likely during the design life. Topic is to be addressed as part of the RFI’s . -Possible upgrade from GoA2 to
GoA4 -Possible option to remove the driver’s cabin to adapt to driverless operation (f ex shunting desk or just make
the driver’s cabin smaller) - Onboard Automatic Train Control system will preliminary be provided by City transport, however
integration responsibility will be with the vehicle supplier. Interface and scope split is to be addressed as part of the
RFI’s - Door location is foreseen to be the same or very similar to current rolling stock. Topic is to be addressed as part
of the RFI’s - High accessibility with for user groups including different disabilities, and large multi-functional area
for prams, wheel-chairs. Note: Platforms in Helsinki are almost straight, i.e. no curves - Offered vehicle(s) and applied
technology based on proven solutions - Modifications for existing gauge, infrastructure or facilities are not foreseen - Helsinki
geographies and climatic conditions must be respected, ambient temperature in Helsinki is between -35C and +35C, during winter
the temperature typically cycles around zero degrees causing icing between components and structures. - HVAC in passenger
area and drivers cab, with separate HVAC for the driver’s cab - Targeted vehicle lifespan is 40 years. 30 years lifespan might
be discussed if total LCC will be significantly lower. Topic is to be addressed as part of the RFI’s - Technical support and
exclusive spare supply, with spare supply availability guaranteed (incl. obsolescence management), is foreseen. Topic is to
be addressed as part of the RFI’s - Helsinki City Transport principles of ethicality and sustainability of the supply chain
must be respected. Products or services prohibited, restricted or banned in EU cannot be used - The procurement of the new
vehicles is expected to be based on total LCC-costs, including but not limited, to vehicle-price, energy consumption, maintenance
costs and track/wheel wear, in combination with quality assessment of the offered product and project execution.
