The City of Edinburgh Council wishes to appoint a suitably experienced building contractor to undertake the construction of Boroughmuir High School, Edinburgh. The proposed Contract is for a new build 1 165 pupil High School with a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at roof level and landscaping to both the school grounds and adjacent public space.The five floor story building will be constructed with a piled foundation substructure; superstructure shall comprise cast in-situ post-tensioned concrete flat slabs supported on concrete columns with cast in-situ stability cores. Steel frames for the long span structures over the sports hall, central atrium and rooftop plant screening. The elevations are mixture of glass and GRC contained within a structural frame. Internally, the classrooms are arranged in perimeter formation with a central Atrium Space that will be the ‘heart’ of the school. The building will be constructed for sustainability, energy efficiency, good quality lighting, internal comfort and effective acoustic performance.Extensive works to be carried out to adjoining roads at Dundee Street and Viewforth including installation of traffic signals and narrowing of carriageway to the existing listed structure Viewforth Bridge.Specialist consultants have been commissioned to carry out the Furniture, Fittings and Equipment; interior design; catering equipment; and specialist lighting designs The lead designer has also managed other specialist designs e.g. Acousticians, Fire Engineers.The design will be aiming for achieving a BREEAM score of ‘Very Good’ for sustainability and an Energy Performance Certificate of B+.The proposed building will be built to an overall space budget of 13,675 square metres.The design team will be novated to the successful contractor.The anticipated cost of the Construction works is between 20 000 000 GBP and 30 000 000 GBP.
