Durham University intends to appoint a Principal Contractor to develop the design and deliver the construction of a prestigious new building for the Department of Physics, located on the west side of the University's Lower Mountjoy site, Stockton Road, Durham, DH1 3LE.The project involves the construction of a new research building with a floor area of around 2 300 m housing seminar rooms, meeting rooms, academic offices and interaction / social spaces.The procurement method to be adopted will be Single Stage Design and Build with a Fixed Lump Sum Price and Novated Design Team.A design is currently being developed by internationally acclaimed Architect, Studio Daniel Libeskind, based in New York, USA. The successful contractor's commission will commence from the end of Stage H of the RIBA Plan of Work.
